Washington is about to witness the grace and flexibility of the Sukhishvili Georgian National Dance Company when they perform on the stage of the Moore Theatre on Sunday, 18th October 2026 as part of their 80th Anniversary Tour! The eight-decade-old company is ready to have their 40 dancers and traditional quintet orchestra show the world how traditional Georgian dance elements shine beautifully when combined with classical ballet. Prior to their tour, the dance company also organized an exhibit for their 80th anniversary to allow more audience a glimpse of their rich history, and Georgia Today wrote on how “It offered an embodied argument that a culture’s vitality can be preserved not by freezing it in time but by staging its capacity for reinvention. The juxtaposition reveals not rupture but continuity through adaptation—a principle as relevant to cultural heritage as to choreographic practice.” Fans are anticipating the shows to be presenting various spectacles, as Staten Island Live has released news on their upcoming tour that shares, “The repertoire will include warrior dances, romantic and ceremonial pieces, and group choreography marked by complex formations and precise unison.”
Formerly known as the Georgian State Dance Company, Sukhishvili was founded in 1945 by Iliko Sukhishvili and Nino Ramishvili. Since then, the well-respected ensemble has performed in more than 90 countries and has been watched by more than 50 million audience members. They have brought the Georgian traditional dance and ballet to numerous stages around the world, and on their upcoming tour, they will also be performing at Carnegie Hall in New York City. Now managed by the founders’ third-generation relatives, the Sukhishvili Georgian National Dance Company remains a relevant and steadfast presence in the dance scene even during contemporary times.
A stellar venue with a 1,800-seating capacity, the Moore Theatre was designed specifically to stage performing arts and is Seattle’s oldest active theater. Since 1907, it has been the setting of various performances, productions, and concerts.
