One indication of how good a musician is is when his or her music has an international reach. This is the trend Prateek Kuhad is moving towards. His indie folk and adult pop style first caught the Indian scene's attention and has now inched towards international acclaim. His breezy tunes and lyrics about love feel like they come from a movie score — a romantic one. Listening to them feels like you are in the movie yourself. What more if you hear him sing live?
Kuhad's acoustic charm was first heard in his self-titled debut. Right from the get-go, he was already catching attention, but he truly shone with his song "cold/mess," which rose to the international charts in 2019. Critics praised his "beautifully haunting" music and "angelic" voice for this song. Right after this attention, he continued to work on his music to reach more people.
As he was reaching new heights internationally, he also became a superstar in India. Growing up, he was a fan of Hindi pop and incorporated its sounds into his music. He also has EPs and albums dedicated solely to Hindi pop.
After the success of "cold/mess" and its EP, he came back in 2021 with a Hindi album entitled "Shehron Ke Raaz," well-loved by his listeners for its hopeful and comforting songs. All four songs of the EP were received well. In 2022, he released his third English album entitled "The Way That Lovers Do." It stunned with its deeply philosophical lyrics paired with swinging melodies. "All I Need," "Just A Word," and "The Last Time" were the track highlights. He came back in 2023 with another Hindi EP called "Mulaqat."
This year, the critically acclaimed musician will be on a world tour. He will be visiting venues in the US and Canada. He will begin in the US at Terminal West on April 25 and will wrap up in the UK at the O2 Forum Kentish Town on October 18.
