Known for his satirical artworks and cartoons, Demetri Martin is taking his pieces of art to the big stage at his latest stand-up comedy tour. Known for his New York Times Bestsellers “This Is a Book” and “Point Your Face at This,” plus his Comedy Central TV series “Important Things with Demetri Martin,” the man has come a long way with all the outbursts of laughs he’s shared. Acclaimed for his iconic deadpan delivery styles, he’s got a unique way with words — never failing to get everyone cracking up. This time, he’s sharing new material and boatloads of a funny mess at The Quick Draw Tour.
Born to a Greek-American family, Demetri Martin grew up in Toms River, New Jersey… and fast forward to almost obtaining a Juris Doctor degree, the man decided to pursue comedy. *Gasps* Well, jokes on the naysayers because the lad went on to find success in living the dream. He found his big break when he scored an appearance on Comedy Central's stand-up showcase “Premium Blend.” In 2003, he won the Perrier Award at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe with his one-man show “If I…” Turned into a BBC special, his career in comedy skyrocketed from then on.
Scoring his own Comedy Central Presents stand-up special wherein he featured his humorous drawings as visuals for the show, and whipped out his guitar for jokes, it marked the beginning of his global dominance in comedy. This went on to become his signature style. Even more appearances, stand-up specials, an Emmy nomination, a Writers Guild of America Award, and so much more accomplishments later — Demetri Martin continues to live the dream. Encapsulating the art of telling jokes, it’s clear why he’s one of the most celebrated names in comedy today.
Hailed as one of the king of deadpans, he sure is pumping with energy after decades in the scene. About his process in writing material, it’s as real as it can get… “It’s usually the same process for me, and it’s pretty boring, but it’s really just me with a notebook or the typewriter or whatever,” he told WABE. “But it’s just getting out and getting down as many ideas as possible. No matter what they are. If it’s an idea for a drawing, fine. If that’s what arrived, capture it, write it down.”
