Right between the world’s mess today, one of the world’s most iconic bands in indie rock is making a huge comeback with their first North American tour in 18 years. It’s no other than THE FORMAT. All in support of their long-awaited new album, “Boycott Heaven,” the band led by founding members Nate Ruess & Sam Means will be performing a special set of hits, crowd favorites, and new music in this highly-anticipated comeback. Initially planned for 2020, the world’s circumstances at the time ultimately cancelled their plans. Now, the time is right, and it’s all finally taking shape.
Just as the world sorts out its crazy twists and turns of events, The Format is out here raising hell as they declare BOYCOTT HEAVEN. Set for release on January 23, 2026, the album arrives twenty years after the release of their fan-favorite sophomore LP “Dog Problems.” A continuation of the journey that Ruess & Means kicked off over two decades ago, the new LP will be released through their very own Vanity Label, signifying their passion and dedication to independent music. With a new single “Holy Roller,” released ahead of the album, fans have been given a taste of the energies that’ll cross over to the record. The band shared a live performance debut of the track on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.
The Format came to be as friends Means and Ruess formed a band, and their debut single “The First Single" from their five-song demo EP gained interest among labels, signing with Elektra Records in 2002. After the label folded, they were carried over to Atlantic Records in 2005 — and were subsequently released from their contracts before the release of their ‘70s-pop-inspired sophomore LP. Independently releasing the album through their own “Vanity Label,” the album gained significant attention from critics, and later made it to various lists of 2006’s best records. From then on, “Dog Problems” marked a significant era in the band’s history. Two decades later, here we are holding tight as they make a huge comeback.
