The 26th annual DANCE THIS performance - produced by STG Education & Community Engagement Department - brings together young and adult performers from many communities to interact and share their cultures through dance. Local and national artists' works highlight the region's abundant talent.
Previous guests on the former Dance This events includes Dance Theatre of Harlem, Syncopated Ladies Napoleon & Tabitha from So You Think You Can Dance, Savion Glover, Joffrey Ballet, Mark Morris Dance Group, Spectrum Dance Theatre, Whim Whim, Jamel Gaines Creative Outlet, Jeroboam Bozeman from Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre, as well as Broadway professionals.
Seattle Theatre Group is a non-profit arts organization whose mission is to create enriching experiences in the arts, engage diverse communities, and steward historic theatres. Their vision is to be the people’s theatre where all are welcomed and represented. They produce over 700 annual events in their local theatres, including the well-loved Moore Theatre.
‘We believe in the transformative power of representation and strive to present a diversity of viewpoints on our stages. Sharing one's experiences through art has the power to shift perspectives, challenge norms, and radically change the way in which we view ourselves, each other and the world around us,” the Seattle Theatre Group stated on their website.
DANCE This is an annual event, now on its 26th year. They hold several workshops and trainings for aspiring artists and upcoming talents to further hone their skills in their art. They spoke about the challenges they faced in their most recent event and said, “All our dancers who participated in the dance workshop loved the interactions with other teams and are thankful for the opportunity,” Somarajan said. “Our main challenge has been committing to the STG practice schedule, especially for the finale piece, which is a collaborative effort between all participating teams.”
