Hailing from Los Angeles, one of the world’s best-known string quartets for their tribute albums & pop covers is kicking off a special run of shows featuring The Music of Billie Eilish, Bridgerton, and Beyond. It’s no other than VITAMIN STRING QUARTET. Producing astounding classical renditions hits from a wide range of artists and genres, they truly are among the most dynamic performers out there. From pop & rock hits to emo and metal anthems, VSQ can draw their strings to any song you can name. On stage, they’re a natural, serving up classical surprises you wouldn’t expect to hit that hard. If you haven’t seen VSQ live in concert, you’re in for a heart-pounding ride of beautiful notes that’ll definitely soothe your soul.
In 1999, the group began as “an experiment in transforming rock and pop songs with classical instruments,” and later on incorporated many more genres of popular music into their catalog. With over 300 releases, people around the world have tuned in and indulged in their classical renditions of any sort of hit song you can name.
Over the past eight years, they’ve gained massive attention for their covers and features in various films and TV series, most notably several tracks in Bridgerton. According to the New York Observer, “VSQ’s atmospheric hits have made classical versions of pop music cool.”
Their list of features include Netflix’s “Bridgerton,” HBO’s “Westworld,” “ABC’s Modern Family,” and more. In an MTV Unplugged episode, they appeared alongside 30 Seconds to Mars + guested on an episode in Gossip Girls. In the “The Nightmare Before Christmas” tribute album, Nightmare Revisited, VSQ can be heard with Danny Elfman, Plain White T’s, Korn, and more.
“We like to think we're building something that people can use to literally soundtrack their day,” VSQ brand manager Leo Flynn to NYLON in 2021. “Whether you're looking for that intimate, romantic moment… looking to calm or focus or relax and elevate. Whatever it is, you can build it in our world.”
Getting to hear your favorite songs in a new light, “The happy surprise, I will call it, that you can hear classical instruments play a song that you love, it's a very unexpected thing,” Grace told WBUR.
“We have more fun on stage and, in my opinion, give a better performance if the audience is really into it. Really rowdy. Whooping and hollering,” said Stein.
