It's a long way from Veracruz to Seattle, but Yuri will be sure to pack that Jarocha vibe with her timeless hits like "Detras de Mi Ventana," and "Yo Te Pido Amor." The Queen of Spanish pop is going on a road trip in the US with her Iconica Tour. One of the stops is going to be at the Moore Theater in Seattle. Don't make any plans on Saturday, September 6th, because you have a date with Yuri!
There may have been a few Spanish singers who had a better vocal range than Yuri in the 80s and 90s. Very few if that, but there's one thing that everyone in Spanish music has learned from Yuri, and that's showmanship. She was one of the first performers to understand that people wanted more than a simple band playing on stage. They wanted to be surprised and left in awe. The word on the street is that this Iconica Tour is going to be Yuri's last! The news came as quite a shock to everyone. Thankfully, "La Jarocha de Oro," as she's been dubbed by fans, is still in great shape. That actually surprised folks even more when, at only 61 years old on the day she announced the tour, Yuri broke down in tears and said it would be her last road trip. Hopefully not, but all signs point to this Saturday, September 6th, show as being the last time you'll be able to see her live in Seattle!
Yuri recently released a short album titled "Yuri y Sus Amigos del Regional Mexicano." In it, she collaborates with the likes of Angela Aguilar and different popular bands in Mexican regional music, singing norteño or Mariachi versions of her all-time classics. Will she be promoting this album on her final tour? It wouldn't be odd for her to have a bit within the show where she changes outfits, and puts on a black Tejana hat. In fact, those outfit changes have always been a staple of her shows. At this point, people expect that from her. What would be odd is to have her last version of an iconic track like "La Maldita Primavera" include mariachis, but maybe she wants to innovate!
Traditionally, these Yuri live shows have a lot of details in not only her outfits, but also the stage design and costumes for her backup dancers. Simply put, there's an element of "theater" in her live performances. That means that while you might be tempted to sit as close to the stage as possible, you might be better off a few rows back, just like you'd like to be at a musical at the Moore Theater.
